Dirty AC Coils

Maintenance Issues for AC Coils

Air conditioners get dirty, there’s no way around it. Part of regular preventative maintenance includes cleaning the inside and outside units so dust, dirt, pet dander, lawn clippings, and a variety of other debris don’t have a chance to accumulate on your system’s sensitive equipment - specifically the coils.

Signs of Dirty AC Coils

  • AC freezing over

  • Indoor humidity

  • Higher energy bills

  • Clogged drain lines

  • Compressor damage

  • Less cooling capacity

  • Added wear and tear

  • Longer cooling cycles

  • Complete unit breakdown

If you notice any of these warning signs, the culprit may be dirt buildup on the AC coils. While you can theoretically clean the AC’s coils at home by yourself, it’s strongly recommended you contact an HVAC professional if you experience the above symptoms. A trained technician will be able to utilize specialized equipment to clean your coils quickly and effectively and will be able to assess the entire system to determine if anything else requires immediate attention.

Air Filters

A clean filter will ensure proper airflow while keeping dust off your AC coil. Changing your filter on a regular basis is the easiest and most effective way to keep your evaporator coils clean in between your biannual maintenance visits.
